ATHLETIC TRAINING

The Saint Joseph's College athletic training room is located on the first floor of the Alfond Center. A certified trainer will be accessible at all home games and contests. All non-traditional-season games and contests will be covered on an “as-available” basis.

A. will be open before and after all games and contests

B. will provide pre-game taping and wrapping (you will need to furnish your own supplies and medical kit)

Supplies and Equipment Provided
A. ice, water and cups will be on site

B. whirlpool, hydrocollator, ultrasound, and e-stim are available in the training room

• Any student trainer must have written permission to use ultrasound and e-stim

• Any athlete traveling without a trainer must have prior consent by phone or letter from an ATC or Team Physician for ultrasound and e-stim

C. emergency equipment (crutches, immobilizer, etc.)

Rick Burrill is entering his first year as Head Athletic Trainer at St. Joe’s after spending the last 16 years as an athletic trainer in professional hockey, including the last two seasons with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Prior to his stint in Portland he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings’ training staff for seven years. In 2006, Burrill was recognized by the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society for having worked in 1,000 professional hockey games.

A native of Freeport, Maine, Burrill earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Northeastern University and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

The 2008-09 academic year will be Tiffany Miller-Gagnon’s fourth as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Saint Joseph’s. Prior to St. Joe’s she completed a year-long Graduate Assistantship as a Head Athletic Trainer at California Area High School in California, Pennsylvania. Miller-Gagnon graduated from University of Maine-Presque Isle with a B.S. in Athletic Training in 2004 and attained her Master’s Degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 2005. She is a member of both the National Athletic Trainer's Association and National Academy of Sports Medicine and also is a certified Performance Enhancement Specialist.

Miller-Gagnon is a native of Caribou, Maine and resides in South Portland, ME with her husband Jeff.
