Ruth Slaton ‘63

Retired educator remembers importance of literature and developing a love of reading.

Some of Mrs. Slaton’s fondest memories were of the education classes she took with Mrs. O’Connor. “I can still see and hear her enthusiasm when she spoke of how important good literature was in the development of the love of reading in students, especially young students.”

Mrs. Slaton has taken advantage of the matching gift program through her husband’s place of employment where as she puts it “both the giver and receiver benefit, because without it I would not be able to contribute as much.”

She observes that Saint Joseph’s has grown so much over the 40 plus years since she graduated “and yet it still gives its students an excellent education and cares about them as well. I feel privileged to have been taught by such dedicated teachers.”
