Registration for Spring 2009 classes

This web site will give you all of the information you need for a successful registration. Registration for the Spring 2009 semester is tentatively scheduled for the week of November 11. Materials will be available in October.  Registration will take place on the second floor lounge in Alfond Hall. You can register during your appointment date and time, or any time after that. .

Independent study

  • Enables student to work individually on project or reading program.


  • 1 to 4 credits may be earned.


  • Needs to be carefully worked out by the student in consultation with the supervising faculty member.


  • The Independent Study Form must be completed.


  • Project plan must be approved with signatures from the supervising faculty member, the Dept. Chair, and the Office of Academic Affairs.


  • A 3.0 (B) overall average required for Independent Study.

Enrollment in Graduate & Professional Studies course

Students registered in the 4-year College may enroll in one (1) Faculty Directed Independent Study course each semester through the Division of Graduate & Professional Studies under the following conditions:

  • Faculty advisor verifies that student is junior or senior and a GPA of at least 2.5;


  • Student demonstrates proficiency to work independently;


  • Approval required from the Office of Academic Affairs;


  • Students must complete course requirements within the on-campus semester. For Spring Semester: January 12 through May 1.


  • Students submits one assignment then waits for faculty advisor feedback on this assignment before submitting the next assignment.

It is the student's responsibility to contact Graduate & Professional Studies for course enrollment materials. The Faculty Directed Independent Study Contract for Graduate & Professional Studies must be completed and signed by the dept. chair/faculty advisor.

Greater Portland Alliance of Colleges and Universities

Registration materials for Greater Portland Alliance of Colleges and Universities (GPACU) courses are available at the Registrar's Office. Students interested in Alliance courses should meet with Lisa Merrill, Associate Registrar, to review the process and the availability of courses at other institutions.

Access to Education Records

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) gives students the right to control access to their educational records. Information about FERPA is printed in the "Student Handbook," and the "College Catalog." A full copy of the act is available to you. If you would like your own copy, contact the Registrar's Office.

ADD/DROP for Spring 2009 classes

  • You can add or drop courses at the Office of Academic Records Office on the ground floor of Saint Joseph's Hall from 8:30 am to 4:00pm through Friday, January 23rd.  Add/Drop forms must be signed by your Academic Advisor or the Department Chairperson.
  • "Adds" will not be accepted after January 23rd without approval from the Academic Affairs Office.
  • "Drops" will not appear on your academic record if processed by January 23, 2009. After that date, all course withdrawals become part of your academic record.
